JoS1010 from TripAdvisor had this to say about Patara Wimbledon:
My boyfriend and I found ourselves on Wimbledon High Street at the end of June one lunch time, and were immediately drawn to the elegant, wood panelled exterior of Patara, and, given how much we enjoy dining at their Greek Street and Berner’s Street branches, we decided to try their newest restaurant.
We were greeted warmly by the front of house staff and given the option of sitting in the main restaurant or around their new ‘Yum bar’ which, as the waitress explained to us, meant we would be able to see the chefs actually making and preparing some of the smaller, ‘Yum’ bar dishes. We thought this was a lovely idea, as it added an element of theatre to our dining experience, and the decor and attention to detail around the bar was really stunning.
We ordered several dishes to share, and two main courses to have to ourselves. As a pescatarian, I often find it tricky to find many options when I dine out, but this was not the case at Patara, as there were many delicious-sounding fish and vegetarian dishes to choose from.
I settled for the black cod as my main, which was perfectly cooked and all the flavours were fantastically balanced. My boyfriend ordered the chicken Thai green curry, which he also raved about. In addition, we shared a som taam salad, tuna carpaccio, a side of rice berry rice (a delicious, soft brown rice that was actually purple in colour – recommended to us by our waitress) and a side of pak choi. As someone who has visited Thailand at least twice a year for over 5 years, I feel very confident in saying that all of the food we tried at Patara really lived up to all my expectations and standards of traditional Thai food, and I enjoyed every mouthful.
To finish, we tried a scoop of the Madagascan vanilla ice-cream and also the Portuguese custard tart ice-cream, which came served in beautiful, black martini glasses that had a gold, painted interior – a lovely finishing touch.
The waiting staff were courteous, attentive and friendly, as well as very knowledgable about all the food on offer, and make some great menu recommendations.
Compared to other Thai restaurants I have visited in London, Patara is definitely my favourite, as the food and service never leave me disappointed, and the interior design is really something special. As for the quality of the food that you receive and the overall dining experience, I think that the prices here at very justifiable.
A definite must-visit if you’re on Wimbledon High Street (and even if you’re not, I recommend you go down to try this place out!)
I will definitely be returning very soon, especially as they also have a stunning, outdoor terrace!
